I've begun three new shows and they are: The United States of Tara, How I Met Your Mother, and Veronica Mars.

The United States of Tara is quite good. It's helplessly comparable to Weeds, being a Showtime 30-minute series about a crazy woman and her family in the suburbs, and as much as I love Toni Collette (quite a bit), no one's quite as dynamic as Mary Louise Parker in that kind of role. Mary Louise Parker really just has an insane amout of gravitas. However, I think Toni Collette's lacking might be due to the fact that she has to share her talent with four roles at once. She's brilliant at, totally emersed in all of them, but I really just want Tara. And it makes me very sad when it seems like her kids or her husband doesn't necessarily want Tara. Her son is gay with little Andy Lawrence, from the Disney Channel all those years ago, which is super cute. Her daughter's really hot. It's a good show. Not quite Weeds, but a good show.

HIMYM isn't so much new as continued. I enjoyed, but wasn't thrilled with it when I watched the first ten or so episodes of first season some months ago. However, I wsn't in love with Neil Patrick Harris then. His adorability really improves the quality. I'm still kind of annoyed with the whole concept of the show - if my dad sat me and my brother down to tell me how he met our mother in aimless little descriptions of other things, I'd have wanted to cut off his ears. However, framing voiceover, kids-look-at-the-camera-which-sounds-like-Bob-Saget disregarded, it's pretty funny. And I love NPH. And Alyson Hannigan.

And then there's Veronica Mars. Why did I wait to watch this show? It is so fantastic. The editing is not great (I think editing quality matters to me more than most) and Veronica's flashback long hair is kind of bad to the point of distraction, but everything else is gold. I'm glad I was prepared to want Veronica and Logan together (fandom-named LoVe - how adorable is that? except that I associate the first name in a pairing fusion title as the dominant - thanks to Gundam Wing, stupid anal fandom that it was (anal-ha!) - and Veronica totally wears the pants in that relationship. Okay, I'm only on episode 5, so maybe she doesn't obviously rock so much harder when they're actually friendly, but I think she probably does) because now every look they give one another is the cutest thing in the world. They put a transexual in the second episode. Boys talk about the gross things they actually talk about. There's a very intrieging mystery.

May I say again (or maybe for the first time) that all station-owned online viewing things are crap and Megastic's high quality seven-part split of shows is so perfect. Use Megastic!

as taken from some chick (or guy) at the forums at tv.com. Lovely.

Finished the first season today. It's really very, very good. Again (like Robin Hood) rather lacking in fic that appeals to me, but it really doesn't matter because the show is worth it. I just really want to see Vorenus and Pullo getting it on. I'm not even very attracted to either one of them. They're just so incredibly sweet together. If you can handle some gore, this scene is a perfect example of why they're amazing little men and amazing together. And it's an amazing show.

ETA: I think the sound goes a little off at the end. That's annoying. Sorry about that. Also, keep in mind that Vorenus and Pullo have been estranged for... okay, about an episode, but a year passes in one episode, so sometimes that's a hell of a long time. I think this was more of a month of two. Estranged because Pullo killed one of Vorenus's slaves in front of Vorenus's kids (much longer story, don't want to go there). And without Vorenus's love and support, Pullo becomes a drunkard assassin and he's in the ring being killed by those guys because he got caught killing this guy. If it weren't for the estrangement, I'm sure Pullo never would have become an assassin, but if he was going to be put to death for some other reason, Vorenus would have been on that shit, making it not happen much more swiftly than that.

Also watched "Persuasion" on the start of PBS's "Complete Jane Austen." I really don't know why they chose the versions they did. I guess because BBC did them and BBC knows best. I loved it... because I always love it because it's an amazing story, but the other version is just better. And the actors in the other version are less attractive which led me to believe that that was the BBC version. It was nice having Wentworth be all blond and boyish instead of... looking like an old, sideburny man (and played by the same fellow who plays Caesar (RIP) in Rome). But they fucked up the letter scene. It was possibly just as effective having Anne run about town trying to get to Wentworth, but having him hear her say that women love the longest when there's no hope while he's writing and then WRITING THE LETTER when she's right there in the room and then sneaking her the letter and then her reading it and it saying, "even a look" and then HER LOOKING and then him leaving and then her going outside to him... they're such private characters and it's such a private way for them to reconcile... it's beautiful. I thankfully didn't remember the perfection of that scene until after I was watching the movie, so I enjoyed it wholeheartedly at the time. Is that on youtube?

No! But a bunch of pop-song fan vids and one hilarious thing made to make it seem that Anne and Lizzy Bennet are sisters... oh, la. So funny.

We also took down Christmas today. It's actually kind of nice to have the house looking like itself and not a crazy place called Ornament Cottage.

Friends Only.

Comment here if you want to be my friend. I'll say yes mostly, but if you lol at me I will unfriend you w/out warning. As someone who takes pride in her own sense of humor, I appreciate the underlying sentiment of lol, but when I am so hilarious you laugh out loud, please find some other way to let me know. Or just enjoy it by yourself. Because lol drives me friggin up the wall. I defy gravity with my annoyance of lol.
